On December 4th, the 2015 Citi – Vietnam Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA 2015) was held in Hanoi.
This is a global and annual event sponsored by Citi fund/ Citi – Vietnam Bank to value customers and microfinance institutions with outstanding contributions to the development of the microfinance sector in Vietnam, contributing positively to poverty reduction.
CMA program recognizes the contributions of 391 typical microfinance clients, 114 outstanding loan officers, and 59 typical microfinance institutions from 2007 to present in Vietnam. CMA program in 2015 was hosted by Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) with the support of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises Vietnam (VINASME).
Attending the CMA 2015 ceremony were more than 200 representatives from many units: the Government, the Microfinance Working Group of Government, State Bank of Vietnam, the Ministry of Finance, other ministries and agencies, unions, donors, international organizations, investment units, microfinance programs/institutions – members of the Working Group Vietnam Microfinance, non-governmental organizations domestic and international, and Citi-Vietnam typical individuals and microfinance institutions in 2015.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Kim Anh, Deputy Governor of Vietnam State Bank stated that: “Microfinance activity in the last 3 decades have had a positive economic and social impact, contribution effectively to the eradication of hunger and poverty by the policy of the Party and State. This program had significant humane meaning to recognize and honor great achievements of microentrepreneurs Vietnam. It also noted the positive contributions of individuals and organizations typical microfinance in the process of providing quality financial services to the poor and the low-income households in Vietnam”.
Earlier, the State Bank of Vietnam, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Microfinance Resources Counselling for Small and Medium Enterprises (formerly the Vietnam Microfinance Working Group – VMFWG) also co-organized the following seminar: “The legal framework and resources to develop sustainable microfinance in Vietnam”. The seminar has updated legal regulations, provided orientation for legal documents about microfinance activities in Vietnam, and concluded the preliminary implementation of Decision No 2195 (period 2012-2014). The seminar was co-sponsored by the Citi Foundation-Citibank Vietnam, United Overseas Bank, ADA organization, MetLife Foundation, and State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
