On 25 March 2013, The Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG), in partnership with Innovations in Financial Inclusion (INFI), with the support of MCNV and WorldGranny, conducted a seminar on: Micro Pension Seminar: What can the Asian Experience mean for Vietnam & Regulation of Interest Rates for Microfinance Institutions in Vietnam. The purposes of the seminar were to: Share the experience and increase awareness on Micro Pension; Linking the Microfinance Institutions in Vietnam with International MicroPension Network and discuss the regulation of interest rates for Microfinance Institutions in Vietnam.
The workshop was successful, with more than 70 delegates participating, representing more than 30 organizations, including the State Bank of Vietnam, Government Office, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, donor representatives, domestic institutions, international organizations, insurance companies, social and political institutions, and other organizations active in Vietnam’s microfinance sector. The workshop participants highly appreciated the content and dialogue and the opportunity to create a forum to exchange views between organizations and individuals interested in the microfinance sector and micro insurance to meet the demand of older clients through information sharing and other research, to identify opportunities and constraints of micro pension insurance in Vietnam; to create closer ties between MCNV, WG, INFI and Vietnam microfinance; at the same time, agreeing and making recommendations on the proposed interest rate policy for microfinance institutions in Vietnam.
