Vietnam Microfinance Bulletin No.17

Dear Readers,

The Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) pleased to send warm greetings with healthy and happiness to all our esteemed readers.

Where lot of fund’s activities and numerous development initiatives across the globe have not been able to fully address the issues related to poverty reduction, microfinance through its unique approach to connect the poor with basic credit services, gave world a reason to think of its importance  towards  acting  directly  on  poverty  issues.  Sector breakthrough of  70s  and  80s contributed heavily towards developing an understanding that MFIs credit approach for the poor could act as a key to poverty reduction and sustainable socio-economic growth at the grassroots.

The ultimate aim of bringing positive changes in the lives of clients makes microfinance different from the traditional financial intermediaries. It also analyzes the trend of achieving the double bottom-line (financial sustainability and social efficiency). The Vietnam Microfinance Working Group Bulletin No. 17 with main theme “Capital access and Social efficiency” will focus on information exchange and dialogue on issues surrounding capital access and social performance management in microfinance institutions in Vietnam. The article “Capital access” includes the sub-article about sourcing prospects and the experience of microfinance institutions in Vietnam in process of finding capital. In additional activities of accessing to capital – expanding the microfinance services is the issues of social performance management that is important role of “Social efficiency” for the sustainability of microfinance activities and vice versa. In particular, the benchmark of data in the Bulletin No. 17 introduces a general overview of Vietnam’s microfinance sectors in 2010, with statistics and analysis of 30 microfinance organizations and programs throughout the country. The national and international updated news, and the list of VMFWG’s upcoming events can be found at the end of this Bulletin.
