Introduction

This report is a collection of findings and policy recommendations resulting from extensive – but by no means exhaustive – research and consultation on critical gender issues in Vietnam. The purpose of this report is to provide research-based analysis and advice to the Government of Vietnam (GoV) to support the formulation of the next National 10 year Strategy and 5 year Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam (POA2). The National Committee for the Advancement of Women (NCFAW) has already agreed that these two policy documents will include 6 sections:

  1. Employment and economic status
  2. Education, training and human resource development
  3. Health and living standards
  4. Leadership and decision making
  5. Women’s rights and benefits
  6. National machinery for women

This report is seen as a contribution to on-going national consultation conducted in the context of developing sector strategies and plans, and, in particular, the POA2 and the 10 year Strategy for the Advancement of women. The voices of women, and the analysis of independent researchers, reflected in this report will ensure that these important national policy decisions will be grounded in the reality of women’s experience, and will promote positive and meaningful change for Vietnamese women.
