This report summarizes a meeting convened by the Institute for Health Sciences at KunmingMedical College, Yunnan, China and the Ford Foundation’s Human Development and Reproductive Health program. This meeting is the forth in a series of regional meetings convened by the Foundation in Asia since 1994 on various reproductive health topics. Previous meetings have examined reproductive tract infection and violence against women. These meetings bring together regional institutions and individuals from Asian countries where the Foundation has offices, international and regional resource persons with experience working on the global aspects of health sector reform and the structural processed involved , to review an emerging or under-recognized reproductive health problem and mobilize action from within the region. The meeting summarized in this report examined the impact of health sector reform programs underway in a number of Asian countries on the capacity of health systems to meet the basic reproductive health needs of poor women.
